Does what it says on the tin

I was given a copy of this book to review by the publisher
The aim of this book is to give the reader the "fast track to pass the COG-310 Exam" ([...]) I think this book does this well. I personally scraped through the exam early this year by simply reading IBM documentation but reading this would have probably bummed my mark into a more comfortable pass. James Miller ([...] ) himself passed with 100% he suggests to pass you also ideally need hands on working experience of TM1 is useful.

The Pros:
* The 2 minute drills are a good recap of the chapter you have just read
* Simple layout good focus chapters appropriate to weightings in the exam e.g. attributes and time attributes get a good write up including lots of questions
* Some useful additional tips/summary sections in this book for completeness rather than the in exam (e.g. Editing Control Dimensions p 34)
* Good section of persistent feeders with some useful tips from James' experience

The Cons:
* Felt the recap and questions were just regurgitating the chapter, often not even reworded so perhaps 50 of the 220 pages aren't new info at all.
* Would have been useful to have the answers to the questions at the back of the book so the questions could be used for revision before the exam.
* Would be nice to reference new IBM naming conventions for TI/variable creation list here (IBM Cognos TM1 The Official Guide) and Bedrock best practise [...].
* Would have like to have seen more tips/cookbook like suggestions from James' experience but accept that is not the purpose of the book.

Would I buy the book? Yes is if was studying for COG 310 i.e it does what is says on the tin. This books rates for me well above the Packt IBM Cognos TM1 Cookbook but not as usefull as the official TM1 guide IBM Cognos TM1 The Official Guide so if I was buying a book purely for reference I would save myself $10 USD and by the IBM one instead.

Passed the test!

I bought this book, read it over the weekend, and passed the certification exam on Monday.

It is extraordinarily helpful to have the content boiled down to the most salient points in such a concise manner.
If you are super strapped for time, just read the two-minute drill and the sample questions (answers are provided).

If you have time and want a more thorough understanding, read the whole thing through. More examples can always be added,
but doing so would take away from the "cut-to-the-chase" approach that makes this book so useful.

Does what it promises, that is helps you prepare for the exam. Not deep enough to learn the product, but even though you are experienced you might learn something new. Most importantly it helps you focus and review the necessary topics for the exam

An all round standard text for the study of Nail Technology!

Elaine Almond produced this standard textbook many years ago; yet it still retains its appeal to modern Beauty Therapists. This book is an informative written academic text in the study of nail techniques and technology. Its main strength lies in its extensive anatomy and physiology text and illustrations; also covering in detail nail disorders and diseases which other texts fail to cover in as much detail. Unique features include its thorough treatment of artificial nail application; and although some techniques have advanced, this book covers useful advice on nail shapes and colour theory. An extensive description of manicure and Nail Technology tools and equipment are included, along with an excellent section describing how to polish nails. From my experience as a lecturer teaching `nail polishing'; this section is invaluable to beginning students, as nail polishing is one of the most difficult tasks to master. This book is an all round standard text for Nail Technology.

Nails

Even though I went through Cosmetology it was over 30 years ago and much has changed. I did not go into the buisness after completeing my training but recently was asked to do a friends nails!!! I had no idea how to do any of the new procedures so I'm buying every book possible to read so I can brush up on what I had learned and hopefully learn a lot more!!! The book itself is informative but if I had no backgound at all in the field of nails and manicures I'm not sure I would understand all the steps. I still would very much recomend this book to anyone wanting to learn, brush up on, or just read about doing nails.

The sixth edition of Microprocessors and Microcomputers: Hardware and Software provides a comprehensive introduction to the concepts, principles, and techniques of microprocessors and microprocessor-based systems. The book focuses on the elements and features of the popular and powerful 68HC 11.

This edition retains all of the valuable learning aids of the previous editions, including:

• Extensive use of clearly explained illustrated examples.
• Clear, uncluttered diagrams and flowcharts.
• A glossary of key terms within each chapter.
• Thorough coverage of troubleshooting, supported by the use of illustrated case studies throughout the book.
• An extensive appendix containing a detailed description of each of the 68HC11's available instructions.

A major enhancement to this new edition is the use of additional photos, illustrations, and exercises to help explain concepts. There has also been a significant increase in the number of chapter review questions, problems, and troubleshooting exercises. Answers to selected problems are provided at the end of the book.

This book was written to provide a comprehensible introduction to microprocessors and microcomputers for a broad range of readers. It can serve as a textbook in electronic technology, computer technology, and computer science programs from the vocational school to four-year college level. It can also be used by computer hobbyists as well as practicing technicians and engineers. A significant portion of the text requires a basic knowledge of digital principles and circuits. For this reason, a comprehensive review of this material is presented in the first three chapters to help those readers who have only a minimal background or who have been away from the field for a while. It is, however, worth noting that in several sections of Chapter 8, the topic of A/D conversion is addressed. For a better understanding of the text in these sections, elementary knowledge of Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) is required.

The major philosophy that has been followed in this book is that the principles and techniques of microprocessors and microprocessor-based systems are the most important concepts to understand, and it is not necessary to survey the whole field of available microprocessors and microprocessor applications. We believe that the best pedagogical approach is to use a currently popular, powerful, yet easy-to-understand microprocessor chip as the vehicle for teaching these concepts. We also believe that since 8-bit microprocessors are simple and easy to understand, this makes them an appropriate choice for an introductory textbook. As such, we have chosen to use the 68HC11 microprocessor as that vehicle. The 68HC11 is one of the most powerful and flexible 8-bit microprocessors in general use, and it contains all of the elements and features that need to be part of an introduction to microprocessors and microprocessor applications. Everything the reader learns and understands using this representative device can be readily transferred to other microprocessors and applications, including the more complex 16-bit and 32-bit devices.

This sixth edition retains all of the valuable learning aids of the previous editions, including (1) extensive use of clearly explained illustrative examples to provide immediate reinforcement; (2) clear, uncluttered diagrams to enhance the understanding of the written material; (3) liberal use of flowcharts; (4) extensive coverage of material on troubleshooting digital systems, internal and external IC faults, and test equipment used to troubleshoot digital systems; (5) several Troubleshooting Case Studies covering 1/O interfacing circuits and RAM decoding logic in a 68HC 11-based circuit; (6) glossaries of important terms at the end of each chapter for easy review of chapter contents; (7) over 470 end-of-chapter questions and problems of varied complexity; (8) a comprehensive index with certain page numbers in boldface type to indicate end-of-chapter glossary definitions; and (9) an extensive appendix containing a detailed description of each of the 68HC 11's available instructions as well as a complete Op-Code vs. Instruction Cross Reference.

The major enhancements to this edition are the inclusion of material on floating point numbers and the use of additional pictures, illustrations, and exercises its the explanation of certain concepts. This includes the following:

• Chapter 1. Addition of material on floating-point numbers and Motorola 68HC11 Floating-Point Format.
• Chapters 7-9. Use of the industry standard of one instruction per line when writing assembly language programs.
• Chapter 7. Inclusion of illustrative aids and step-by-step analysis to explain several addressing modes of the 68HC 11 microcontroller.
• All Chapters. Significant increase in the number of end-of-chapter questions, problems, and troubleshooting exercises.
• Expansion of Appendix A to include the reference list and the Opcode Maps for all of the 68HC 11 MCU Instruction Types.

Jake and Jesus is a great book for helping children to understand Jesus as God in the flesh. The reader will easily identify with Jesus as a knowable person who can help us in our living. Kelly Hagen's story Jake and Jesus is an inspirational and lovely way for young children to get to know Jesus. Young Jake explains in a heartfelt way how wonderful it is that Jesus is his best friend and how much that means to him. The illustrations in Jake and Jesus are precious and add to the uplifting tone of the story. An enjoyable book with a great message! This would make an excellent read-aloud too!
